Caught in the pull of a black star, the Enterprise is hurled back to Earth in the late 1960s, where it is picked up on radar and an Air Force jet is sent to intercept it. Kirk's tractor beam damages the fighter, so he beams its pilot, Captain John Christopher, aboard. Christopher has now seen too much to go home, but Spock then finds that his future son will lead an important space mission, so he must return. Kirk and Sulu beam down to the airbase to remove film and records of the sighting, and Kirk is captured and interrogated before he can be rescued. Finally the Enterprise slingshots around the Sun to travel forward in time. On the way it beams Christopher and a guard back to the moments before they met the ship, leaving them with no memory of it.
