On Romulus, Picard and Data join Spock's secret peace movement, while Riker hunts for a stolen Vulcan ship in some of the galaxy's shadier corners.
Red alert: the full plot, ending included. Haven't watched yet?REVEAL SYNOPSIS
Spock refuses to leave Romulus, believing that the new Proconsul, Neral, will support reunification, so Picard and Data stay to help. Spock and Data compare their very different journeys: one who rejected emotion, one who longs to understand it. Meanwhile, Riker tracks the missing Vulcan ships through a seedy bar. The truth emerges when Sela takes Picard, Data and Spock prisoner. Pardek has betrayed the movement, and the talk of peace is cover for an invasion of Vulcan by 2,000 Romulan troops aboard three stolen Vulcan ships. Sela orders Spock to announce a peace envoy, but Data uses a holographic deception to overpower her. Spock instead broadcasts a warning. When the Enterprise intercepts the ships, a Romulan warbird destroys them. Spock stays to continue his work underground. Picard offers him a share of the bond he formed with Sarek through a mind meld, and Spock touches his father's thoughts at last.
- 01Spock refers to his part in the Klingon peace talks, events shown in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, which reached cinemas after this two-parter aired.
- 02Spock's visit follows Dr McCoy's cameo in “Encounter at Farpoint”. Scotty would follow in “Relics”.
- 03Star Trek: Discovery revisited the story in “Unification III”, set in a future where Vulcans and Romulans share the renamed world Ni'Var.
