Starfleet fears that Ambassador Spock has defected after he is photographed on Romulus, and Picard is sent on a covert mission to find out why.
Red alert: the full plot, ending included. Haven't watched yet?REVEAL SYNOPSIS
Starfleet learns that Ambassador Spock has vanished and been photographed on Romulus. Fearing a defection, it sends Picard to investigate. On Vulcan, Picard visits Spock's ailing father Sarek, who reveals that Spock has long been in contact with a Romulan senator, Pardek. Meanwhile, the Enterprise finds wreckage from the T'Pau, a Vulcan ship that was supposedly decommissioned, and Riker starts tracing how it left a Federation surplus depot run by a fussy quartermaster. Picard calls on Gowron, who reluctantly supplies a cloaked Klingon ship to carry Picard and Data to Romulus. On the way, they learn that Sarek has died. Disguised as Romulans, the pair approach Pardek and are led into caves beneath the city. There Spock steps out of the shadows, unwelcoming but calm, and explains that he is on a personal mission: to work towards the reunification of the Vulcan and Romulan peoples.
- 01Both parts open with a dedication to Gene Roddenberry, who died shortly before they were broadcast.
- 02Part I was filmed after Part II to fit guest stars' schedules, which is why the production numbers are out of order.
- 03Nimoy had reportedly once asked for $1 million for a cameo, but accepted minimum pay to help promote Star Trek VI, which he executive produced.
