Geordi finally meets Dr Leah Brahms, designer of the Enterprise's engines, but she is nothing like the holographic version he once knew, and a vast space creature has its own plans.
Red alert: the full plot, ending included. Haven't watched yet?REVEAL SYNOPSIS
Geordi is delighted when Dr Leah Brahms, the engine designer he once recreated on the holodeck, comes aboard to inspect his modifications. The real Brahms is brisk, prickly, critical of his changes and, he soon learns, married. Meanwhile the Enterprise meets a huge space-dwelling creature that attacks. Picard returns fire with a minimal phaser burst, and the creature dies. Inside it the crew find an unborn offspring, which they deliver with phaser fire. The infant promptly latches onto the hull and begins feeding on the ship's energy, treating the Enterprise as its mother. Brahms discovers Geordi's holodeck programme and feels deeply violated. Forced to work together as the hungry baby draws them towards danger, they find a way to sour the milk. The infant lets go and joins its own kind, and Geordi and Leah part as friends.
- 01A sequel to “Booby Trap”, in which Geordi created a holographic Leah Brahms. Susan Gibney plays both versions.
- 02Maurice Hurley's first writing for the show since leaving as co-executive producer at the end of season two.
- 03The adult creature was a physical model built by Tony Meininger, while the baby was computer generated by Rhythm & Hues.
