Shuttle to Kenfori

The Gorn DNA in Captain Batel's body becomes active again, and her only hope is a rare Chimera flower found on Kenfori, a planet contested by the Federation and the Klingons. Pike and Dr M'Benga fly down while the Enterprise hides nearby. They find the flower, but it has turned a group of scientists into zombies. When a Klingon ship arrives, Una orders a slow approach, but Ortegas flies faster than ordered, exposing the Enterprise and forcing a riskier plan inside Kenfori's atmosphere. On the surface, Bytha, daughter of the Klingon ambassador Dak'Rah, hunts M'Benga to restore her family's honour. M'Benga admits he killed her father and beats her in a duel, but spares her life. Bytha then sacrifices herself so they can escape the zombies. Back aboard, Una relieves Ortegas of duty for two weeks, and Pike is horrified to learn that Batel and M'Benga plan to use the flower to make her a human-Gorn hybrid.
