Spock and Chapel's shuttle is wrecked by a portal belonging to the Kerkhovians, beings from a higher dimension. While repairing the damage they remove what they see as an anomaly: Spock's Vulcan DNA. Now fully human and unable to control his emotions, Spock faces disaster, because T'Pring and her parents are about to arrive for a formal engagement dinner. His mother, Amanda, comes aboard to help, and the crew coach Spock through the rituals while hiding the truth from his fiancée. Chapel, with Uhura and Ortegas, goes to the Kerkhovians to demand a cure, and wins them over by admitting her feelings for Spock. He is restored in time to complete the ritual, then reveals what happened and calls out the prejudice he has faced from T'Pring's family. Hurt that he kept secrets, T'Pring asks for time apart. Afterwards Spock admits to Chapel that he shares her feelings.
