All Those Who Wander

On its way to Deep Space K-7, the Enterprise is diverted to find the USS Peregrine, which has crashed on an ice planet. Pike leads a team down, including Hemmer, La'an and Cadet Uhura, near the end of her rotation. Restoring power, they learn the Peregrine was carrying refugees, one of whom was infected with Gorn eggs, and the hatchlings killed the crew. Two survivors remain: a young girl, Oriana, and Buckley, who is also infected. When his eggs hatch, the young Gorn attack the team and each other until one dominant creature is left. The crew plan to kill it by plunging the ship's temperature, but Hemmer discovers he has been infected too. After urging Uhura to stay in Starfleet, he throws himself from the ship into the freezing cold, dying and taking the Gorn growing inside him with him. As the crew mourn, La'an takes leave to help Oriana find her family.
