Red alert: the full plot, ending included. Haven't watched yet?REVEAL SYNOPSIS
A flashback shows the day synthetic workers on Mars turned on the people around them. In the present, Picard and his Romulan housekeeper Laris search Dahj's apartment. Laris suspects the Zhat Vash, a secretive Romulan group with a deep hatred of synthetic life, and helps Picard trace Soji's whereabouts from Dahj's computer. Picard learns that he has a serious brain condition, but asks Admiral Kirsten Clancy for a ship anyway. She scornfully refuses and passes his concerns to Commodore Oh, Starfleet's head of security. Oh is secretly working with a Romulan agent posing as a Starfleet lieutenant: Narissa, sister of Narek, who is courting Soji aboard the Artifact, the reclaimed Borg cube where she works. Narissa arranged Dahj's death, while Narek hopes to learn Soji's secrets by winning her trust instead. Turned down by Starfleet, Picard goes to see his estranged former first officer, Raffi Musiker, to ask for her help.
- 01Raffi's desert home was filmed at Vasquez Rocks in Los Angeles County, a location used for alien worlds many times in Star Trek.
- 02Orla Brady, who plays Laris, changed her scripted “sneaky bastards” to “sneaky feckers”, with writer Michael Chabon's approval.
