Tendi's family faces a winner-takes-all race against rival Orions, while Boimler and Mariner supervise ensigns on a new Federation world that is giving up money, and Rutherford struggles without Tendi.
Red alert: the full plot, ending included. Haven't watched yet?REVEAL SYNOPSIS
Tendi learns that her sister D'Erika is pregnant, a secret D'Erika kept so that Tendi would not feel obliged to leave Starfleet. When the Orion Pirate Queen orders the feud between House Tendi and the blue-skinned House Azure settled by a sailship race through a nebula, with the loser forfeiting its wealth, Tendi grows protective of her sister. During the race she boards the rival ship and engineers a tie, but the Queen declares both houses losers. Meanwhile the Cerritos helps Targalus IX, a new Federation member, dismantle its capitalist economy. Boimler and Mariner swap their usual roles as bosses until former elites kidnap their ensigns, who escape with help from Boimler's borrowed alternate-universe tips. On the ship, T'Lyn realises what the shuttle repairs mean to Rutherford and takes the craft apart again so the work can continue. In the end the planet's discarded riches go to House Tendi, and Tendi returns to the Cerritos.
- 01Released on Paramount+ on the same day as “Dos Cerritos”, as a two-episode season premiere.
- 02Reviewers noted that the solar sailship race echoes the sailing ship of DS9's “Explorers”.
- 03The race storyline also recalls Voyager's “Drive”, in which Tom Paris and B'Elanna Torres enter an interstellar race.
