Mining the Mind's Mines

The Cerritos and the USS Carlsbad are sent to Jengus IV to finalise a peace deal between the rock-like native Scrubble and a team of Federation scientists, and to help relocate the scientists' outpost. Mariner, Boimler and Rutherford join the Carlsbad's crew in clearing psychic mines, glowing orbs that show people their deepest fantasies before turning them to stone. The Carlsbad's officers turn out to be wary of the Cerritos, which has quite a reputation. When the mines start projecting nightmares instead, the away team flees into a cave and uncovers the truth: the Scrubble and the scientists have been using the orbs to gather Starfleet secrets to sell. Aboard ship, Tendi trains as a senior science officer under the unhelpful Dr Migleemo. While the two captains squabble over a ceremonial gift from the Scrubble, Tendi spots odd readings, smashes it open and exposes a hidden spying device.
