The Cerritos is sent to catalogue the collection of a late hoarder of rare artefacts, and new security chief Kayshon, a Tamarian, leads Mariner, Tendi, Rutherford and ambitious Ensign Jet Manhaver aboard. When the collection's automated defences activate, Kayshon is turned into a plush toy and the museum becomes a deadly obstacle course. Mariner and Jet clash over who should lead, and their squabbling nearly gets everyone killed in a diorama recreating “The Savage Curtain”, until Tendi and Rutherford find a way out using Excalbian remains. Kayshon is restored in sickbay. On the Titan, Boimler joins a covert mission against the Pakleds on Karzill IV. Trapped with his team, he gives a rousing speech and proposes a transporter trick inspired by Riker's own past, but it splits him in two. Riker can keep only one, so the duplicate, now called William, stays on the Titan and Boimler returns to the Cerritos as an ensign.
- 01Kayshon is a Tamarian, the species introduced in TNG's “Darmok”, and the episode title echoes their metaphor-based way of speaking.
- 02It was released on 19 August 2021. Memory Alpha notes the date would have been Gene Roddenberry's 100th birthday.
- 03Boimler's transporter duplicate is a nod to Thomas Riker, Will Riker's own transporter double from TNG's “Second Chances”.
