Archer and T'Pol are captured by the Syrrannites and brought before their leader, T'Pau. T'Pol's estranged mother, T'Les, is among the sect. They learn that Arev was really Syrran, the group's founder, and that his mind meld left Archer carrying a katra, a Vulcan's living spirit. When T'Pau melds with Archer, she finds it is the katra of Surak himself. Visions of Surak guide Archer towards the Kir'Shara, a lost artifact holding Surak's original teachings. In orbit, Administrator V'Las pressures Enterprise to leave so that the High Command can strike the Syrrannites, and Soval faces dismissal for having performed a mind meld. Soval reveals that Vulcan is secretly preparing an attack on the Andorians. The bombardment of the Forge kills many Syrrannites, and T'Les dies of her injuries. Archer recovers the Kir'Shara, while V'Las falsely claims the Andorians are the aggressors and Tucker sets course for Andoria.

DID YOU KNOW?

  1. 01Kara Zediker plays a young T'Pau, the Vulcan matriarch played by Celia Lovsky in the original series episode “Amok Time”.
  2. 02The producers deliberately cast actors who resembled the original series performers in the roles of T'Pau and Surak.
  3. 03The idea of a Vulcan katra carried by someone else draws on the film Star Trek III: The Search for Spock.
