A knockout gas leaves the Enterprise crew helpless as a band of greedy alien thieves strips the ship, and only Trip is awake to stop them.
Red alert: the full plot, ending included. Haven't watched yet?REVEAL SYNOPSIS
An alien vessel docks with the Enterprise and floods it with a gas that leaves the crew unconscious. Four Ferengi, Ulis, Krem, Muk and Grish, come aboard and begin helping themselves to anything that looks valuable. Tucker escapes the effects and tracks the intruders around the ship, staying out of sight. When the Ferengi revive Archer and demand to know where the ship's riches are hidden, he insists there is nothing of value aboard, and starts playing for time. Tucker quietly brings T'Pol round, and she identifies the gas device as a deliberate trap. The crew turns the thieves' own greed against them: Archer bluffs and stalls, and T'Pol works on the Ferengi's mistrust of one another until the gang starts to fall apart. The crew regains control and recovers the stolen goods. Archer sends the Ferengi away with a warning to keep clear of human and Vulcan ships in future.
- 01To create spoken Ferengi, the Jacquemettons wrote the dialogue in English, translated it into French and broke it into syllables. It was meant to run throughout, but was cut back to the first act.
- 02Clint Howard, Ethan Phillips and Jeffrey Combs were all Star Trek veterans, previously known as Balok in “The Corbomite Maneuver”, Neelix in Voyager, and Brunt and Weyoun in Deep Space Nine.
- 03Story editor André Bormanis said the producers made sure Picard's first contact with the Ferengi in The Next Generation remained the official one.
