Red alert: the full plot, ending included. Haven't watched yet?REVEAL SYNOPSIS
While Enterprise deploys subspace amplifiers, an unknown alien vessel appears, scans the ship, and fires without answering any hails. Archer considers returning to Jupiter Station to have the new phase cannons fitted, but Tucker persuades him to let the crew install them themselves. The aliens return, board the ship and damage a warp nacelle, and a device they planted is found tapping into Enterprise's systems. Meanwhile, Hoshi is tasked with discovering Lt Malcolm Reed's favourite food for his birthday, a mission that leads her to his family, his friends and even Phlox, since no one seems to know him well. A test firing of the overpowered cannons proves dangerous, but Reed realises their power could be the answer. In the final confrontation the boosted weapons damage the alien ship, which retreats. Hoshi solves her puzzle too, and Reed's birthday cake features pineapple.
- 01It was originally titled “Call to Arms”, but renamed because a Deep Space Nine episode already had that title.
- 02Production staff informally called the aliens “Shroomies”. The game Star Trek Online later named them the Elachi.
- 03Winrich Kolbe's only Enterprise episode as director.
