In 2151 a Klingon courier, Klaang, crash-lands in a field in Broken Bow, Oklahoma, while fleeing Suliban agents, and is shot by a farmer. Against Vulcan advice, Captain Jonathan Archer persuades Starfleet to launch the new Enterprise early and return Klaang to the Klingon homeworld. He gathers a crew that includes Denobulan doctor Phlox, linguist Hoshi Sato and, reluctantly, the Vulcan Sub-Commander T'Pol. When the Suliban board the ship and abduct Klaang, the trail leads to Rigel X, where a Suliban woman, Sarin, reveals that Klaang carries evidence of a plot to destabilise the Klingon Empire, directed from the future in a temporal cold war. Archer and Tucker infiltrate the Suliban Helix to rescue Klaang, and Archer fights the Suliban leader Silik before escaping. Enterprise delivers Klaang and his message to Qo'noS. Starfleet then lets the mission continue, and Archer asks T'Pol to stay aboard.
