Inside the portal, Burnham finds a strange space with windows onto other worlds and persuades Moll to work with her, but Moll turns on her once they reach the Progenitors' technology. Outside, Rayner and the crew battle the Breen, while Book and Culber fly a shuttle to stabilise the portal. Burnham meets a Progenitor, who explains that the technology creates life and cannot truly restore the dead: L'ak could only be copied, without his memories. Deciding that no one should hold such power, Burnham sends the portal into a black hole. Weeks later, Saru and T'Rina marry, Burnham and Book declare their love again, and Kovich reveals himself to be Agent Daniels, a temporal agent. Years later, Admiral Burnham watches her son Leto take his first command. She then boards Discovery one last time and, with Zora, takes the ship on a final Red Directive mission, setting up the events of the Short Trek “Calypso”.
- 01The epilogue came from two or three days of extra filming in April 2023, after Paramount announced that season 5 would be Discovery's last.
- 02Kovich is revealed to be Agent Daniels, the temporal agent from Star Trek: Enterprise.
- 03The closing scene links to the Short Trek “Calypso”, in which a man named Craft finds Discovery abandoned except for Zora.
