Red alert: the full plot, ending included. Haven't watched yet?REVEAL SYNOPSIS
The anomaly vanishes and reappears 1,000 light years away within seconds, proving it is no natural phenomenon. Scientist Ruon Tarka joins Discovery to help find out who made it. With Stamets he builds a small model of its controller, and learns the real thing must draw on an enormous power source. Discovery is sent to evacuate the Radvek asteroid belt, which lies in the anomaly's new path. The grateful magistrate organises his people, but refuses to free a group of prisoners kept as a warning to others, known as the Examples. Burnham and Book go in to free them, offering asylum aboard Discovery. One prisoner, Felix, chooses to stay, confessing that he killed a man in a fight over a stolen orb recording a family's history. Book wants to save him regardless, but Burnham respects his wish, and Felix dies when the anomaly destroys the belt. Burnham later returns the orb to the dead man's daughter.
- 01Production designer Doug McCullough used the new virtual production stage to create the huge prison, an environment that otherwise would not have been possible.
- 02Among the evacuation ships are the USS Janeway and the NSS T'Pau, which carries the Vulcan tradition of ring ships into the 32nd century.
