Quark's mother Ishka has been captured by the Dominion, and the Grand Nagus offers a large reward for her safe return. Quark and Rom put together an all-Ferengi rescue team: Nog, cousin Gaila, the mercenary Leck and, reluctantly, their old enemy Brunt. Training on the holosuite shows they are hopeless as soldiers, so they decide to negotiate instead, offering to swap the captured Vorta Keevan for Ishka. The exchange is set for the abandoned station Empok Nor. When Rom lets slip that Quark has been understating the reward, a squabble breaks out and Keevan is shot dead by accident. Nog rigs the corpse with neural stimulators so it can walk across for the swap. The trick works long enough for Ishka to reach safety, and the Ferengi capture the Vorta negotiator Yelgrun.
- 01The title nods to the western The Magnificent Seven.
- 02Ira Steven Behr, a fan of Iggy Pop, had tried to cast him in “Past Tense, Part II”, but scheduling got in the way.
- 03The story was originally to have Grand Nagus Zek kidnapped, but Wallace Shawn was unavailable.
