A coded message warns of a Maquis strike on Cardassia, and Sisko must turn to the one man who might stop it: Michael Eddington, the prisoner he despises.
Red alert: the full plot, ending included. Haven't watched yet?REVEAL SYNOPSIS
Martok intercepts a coded Maquis message suggesting that cloaked missiles have been launched at Cardassia, an attack that could provoke a devastating Dominion response. Sisko takes Michael Eddington out of prison, offering a deal in return for help finding the launch site. The two old enemies argue their way across the Badlands and slip past Jem'Hadar fighters. On Athos IV the truth comes out: there are no missiles. The message only confirmed that the last Maquis had reached a meeting point, and Eddington has used Sisko to rescue them, including his wife, Rebecca. With the Jem'Hadar closing in, Eddington stays behind to hold them off and is killed so the others can escape. Sisko later concedes that Eddington stayed loyal to his cause to the end. Meanwhile, Nog wins Martok's respect by standing up to the Klingons on the station.
- 01The final appearance of both Eddington and the Maquis. News of their fate reaches Chakotay in the Voyager episode “Hunters”.
- 02The final scene between Eddington and Sisko was inspired by Steve McQueen's death scene in Robert Wise's 1966 film The Sand Pebbles.
- 03Sisko learns in this episode that his old friend Cal Hudson was killed by the Cardassians.
