The Dominion fleet bypasses the station and heads for Cardassia, where Dukat reveals that Cardassia has joined the Dominion, with himself at its head. He vows to drive every Klingon and Maquis from Cardassian space. Sisko persuades Gowron to restore the Federation-Klingon alliance, and Romulan ships join the defence. In the prison camp, Worf takes on Jem'Hadar fighters in brutal bouts and refuses to give in, while Garak battles severe claustrophobia to finish a transmitter hidden inside a cramped wall. Their signal is answered, and the prisoners are beamed out just before they are executed. On Deep Space Nine, the Changeling posing as Bashir flies a runabout packed with explosives towards the Bajoran sun, intending to destroy it. Warned by the real Bashir, Sisko has the runabout destroyed and the Defiant saves the system. Afterwards, Martok takes command of a permanent Klingon presence on the station.
