Red alert: the full plot, ending included. Haven't watched yet?REVEAL SYNOPSIS
When a bombing at a diplomatic conference in Antwerp kills 27 people, the evidence points to a Changeling. Sisko is called to Earth with Odo and Jake, and Admiral Leyton puts him in charge of Starfleet security on the planet. Together they persuade the Federation President, Jaresh-Inyo, to approve tough new measures, including blood screenings. Sisko's father Joseph, who runs a restaurant in New Orleans, resents the suspicion, and for a moment Sisko even wonders whether his own father is genuine. Odo exposes a Changeling impersonating Leyton, proving that the Dominion has infiltrated Starfleet Headquarters. On the station, the wormhole keeps opening with no ship in sight. Then, without warning, the power fails across the entire planet. Fearing an invasion, Sisko and Leyton push for a state of emergency, and the episode ends with armed Starfleet officers patrolling the streets of New Orleans.
- 01The story was first planned as a season-ending cliffhanger, but Paramount did not want DS9 to follow The Next Generation's habit of cliffhanger finales.
- 02Brock Peters, who plays Joseph Sisko, had played Admiral Cartwright in Star Trek IV and Star Trek VI.
- 03It establishes that the Federation president's office is in Paris, as seen in Star Trek VI.
