The veteran warrior Kor arrives at the station with remarkable news: he believes he can find the Sword of Kahless, the legendary blade of the first Klingon emperor. Worf, now an outcast from his people, hopes the relic could unite the Klingon Empire, and he and Dax join the quest. In a vault in the Gamma Quadrant they find the sword, but they are pursued by Toral, son of Duras, who wants it for himself. As the three flee through underground caves, the sword begins to work on the two Klingons. Worf and Kor grow suspicious and jealous of each other, each convinced he should be the one to carry it, and their quarrel turns violent until Dax takes charge. Once they escape, the two warriors realise that if the sword can divide honourable men like them, it could tear the Empire apart. They beam it into space, to drift until the Klingons are ready for it.

  1. 01John Colicos first played Kor in the original series' “Errand of Mercy”, and returned to the role in DS9's “Blood Oath”.
  2. 02Booby-trap sequences in the caves, in the style of Raiders of the Lost Ark, were cut because filming them would have added a day to the shoot.
  3. 03The sword was made from hardened aluminium, and sculptor Dragon Dronet etched the blade by hand using dental tools.
