Garak has rejoined Tain, and Odo is a prisoner as a combined Cardassian and Romulan fleet passes through the wormhole to attack the Founders' homeworld. To prove his loyalty, Garak is ordered to interrogate Odo with a device that stops him reverting to his liquid state. In agony, Odo admits his longing to rejoin his people and his love for Kira, but Garak tells Tain the interrogation yielded nothing. Although Starfleet will not intervene, Sisko takes the Defiant into the Gamma Quadrant. The fleet finds the homeworld deserted: it is a trap, and Dominion ships tear the fleet apart. Colonel Lovok reveals that he is a Changeling, and that the Founders planned this to wipe out the Tal Shiar and the Obsidian Order. Tain will not leave his bridge, so Odo knocks Garak out and drags him to safety, and the Defiant rescues them. Back on the station, Odo invites Garak to breakfast.
