When Garak's tailor shop is destroyed in an explosion, Odo's investigation uncovers a conspiracy reaching deep into Cardassian and Romulan intelligence.
Red alert: the full plot, ending included. Haven't watched yet?REVEAL SYNOPSIS
An explosion destroys Garak's shop, and Odo quickly establishes that it was no accident. A suspected assassin leaves the station, but his ship explodes before he can be questioned, and the evidence points to the Romulans. Odo learns that other former Obsidian Order operatives have been targeted, and Garak suspects his old mentor Enabran Tain, the Order's retired head. Garak and Odo set off to find Tain and end up aboard a Romulan warbird. There Tain reveals that the Obsidian Order and the Romulan Tal Shiar have joined forces to strike at the Founders' homeworld in the Gamma Quadrant, and that he has been eliminating anyone who might reveal his plans. Tain offers Garak the chance to return to his side, and to Odo's surprise, Garak accepts.
- 01Originally a single episode. Michael Piller, in his last suggestion as co-executive producer, proposed making it a two-parter.
- 02The first Star Trek two-parter in which each half has its own title, a pattern DS9 would continue.
- 03The Tal Shiar wear a new uniform design, reportedly at Ronald D. Moore's insistence, different from the one seen in The Next Generation's “Face of the Enemy”.
