Garak's headaches worsen into something far more serious, and as Bashir fights to save his friend, the tailor finally starts talking about his past. But which story is true?
Red alert: the full plot, ending included. Haven't watched yet?REVEAL SYNOPSIS
At their regular lunch, Bashir notices Garak is suffering from severe headaches. After Garak collapses, Bashir discovers a device in his brain: an implant created by the Obsidian Order to help agents withstand torture. Garak admits he has kept it switched on constantly to dull the pain of his exile, and now it is failing and killing him. As Bashir weans him off it, a feverish Garak tells him several contradictory versions of how he came to be exiled, each involving a man named Elim. Desperate for medical information, Bashir travels into Cardassian space to meet Enabran Tain, the retired head of the Obsidian Order, who supplies what is needed and reveals that Elim is Garak's own first name. Garak recovers, and the lunches resume, but he insists that every story he told was true, especially the lies.
- 01Garak's first name, Elim, is revealed for the first time.
- 02Paul Dooley makes his first of four appearances as Enabran Tain.
- 03Early drafts called the spy agency the “Gray Order”. It was renamed to avoid confusion with the Grey Council of Babylon 5.
