Kor, Kang and Koloth, three ageing Klingon warriors, come to Deep Space Nine looking for Curzon Dax. Decades earlier, a criminal known as the Albino murdered their firstborn sons with a virus, and the three Klingons and Curzon swore a blood oath to kill him. Kang has finally tracked the Albino down. Jadzia insists on honouring Curzon's vow, even though Sisko objects and a Trill is not automatically bound by a previous host's promises. She joins the Klingons and proposes a way to disable the Albino's energy weapons, forcing a fight at close quarters. They storm his compound. Koloth is killed and Kang is mortally wounded. Jadzia disarms the Albino but hesitates to strike, and Kang kills him before dying himself. Only Kor and Jadzia walk away, and Kor sings in honour of his fallen comrades.
- 01Kor, Kang and Koloth all first appeared in the original series. This was the first time the characters were seen with Klingon forehead ridges, unexplained on screen.
- 02The story originally used new Klingons. Robert Hewitt Wolfe suggested bringing back the original series characters. The working title was “The Beast”.
- 03Director Winrich Kolbe played Wagner's “Götterdämmerung” throughout filming, which influenced Dennis McCarthy's score for the battle scenes.
