Red alert: the full plot, ending included. Haven't watched yet?REVEAL SYNOPSIS
A plasma storm forces the evacuation of Deep Space 9, leaving only a skeleton crew aboard. A ship in apparent distress docks, carrying Verad, a Trill who was rejected for joining, his companion Mareel and a pair of Klingon mercenaries. With Quark's help disabling security, they seize control, lock Odo away and force Bashir to transfer the Dax symbiont into Verad, knowing Jadzia will die within hours without it. Verad now has all of Dax's memories but uses them for his own ends. Sisko appeals to him through Curzon, his old mentor, while Mareel grows uneasy at how much Verad has changed. Quark secretly helps Bashir free Odo. Verad tries to escape with Kira as a hostage, but Odo blocks his departure, Kira fights back and Sisko stuns Verad. The symbiont is returned to Jadzia just in time.
- 01Tim Russ, later Tuvok in Star Trek: Voyager, plays the Klingon T'Kar. It was his second Star Trek role, after The Next Generation's “Starship Mine”.
- 02Terry Farrell named it a favourite episode because it explored the difference between host and symbiont.
- 03Sisko recalls first meeting Curzon Dax at Pelios Station.
