In 2390, an older Chakotay and Harry Kim reach a frozen planet and find Voyager buried in the ice, its crew long dead. Fifteen years earlier the ship had tried a quantum slipstream drive. Kim, flying the Delta Flyer ahead to send course corrections, sent data that made things worse, and Voyager crashed. Only he and Chakotay escaped. Consumed by guilt, Kim has stolen a Borg temporal transmitter and plans to use Seven's implant to send corrected figures back to Seven in the past. Meanwhile, in 2375, the crew prepare for the test. In the future, Captain Geordi La Forge pursues the pair in the USS Challenger, and their first attempt fails. On the Doctor's advice, Kim instead sends data that collapses the slipstream safely, just before the Flyer is destroyed. In the present, Voyager drops out of slipstream unharmed, ten years closer to home, and Kim receives a message from his future self.
- 01Voyager's 100th episode. LeVar Burton directed it and also appears as Geordi La Forge from The Next Generation.
- 02Filmed from 6 to 18 August 1998. The crash snow combined CGI with real baking soda.
- 03Joe Menosky called it a time travel story in which nobody actually travels through time, as only messages are sent.
