A Cardassian missile that Torres once reprogrammed for the Maquis turns up in the Delta Quadrant, heading for an inhabited planet, and only she knows how it thinks.
Red alert: the full plot, ending included. Haven't watched yet?REVEAL SYNOPSIS
Back in the Alpha Quadrant, Torres reprogrammed a captured Cardassian prototype missile, Dreadnought, for the Maquis and launched it at a Cardassian target, but it vanished in the Badlands. Now Voyager discovers it in the Delta Quadrant, apparently brought there by the Caretaker just as the ship was. Mistaking the planet Rakosa V for its original target, the missile is on course to attack. Torres beams aboard to disarm it, but the artificial intelligence she gave it, which speaks with her own voice, decides that she has been compromised and blocks her at every turn, using the very defences she designed. As time runs out, Janeway prepares to set Voyager to self-destruct and put the ship in the missile's path to protect the Rakosans. Torres finally activates a Cardassian backup program that distracts the computer long enough for her to breach the missile's containment field, and Tuvok beams her out seconds before it explodes.
- 01Roxann Dawson plays both Torres and the voice of the missile's computer.
- 02Director LeVar Burton, The Next Generation's Geordi La Forge, said that 85 per cent of the episode was shot using a Steadicam.
- 03Dan Kern, who plays Rakosan First Minister Kellan, had appeared in The Next Generation episode “We'll Always Have Paris”.
