Red alert: the full plot, ending included. Haven't watched yet?REVEAL SYNOPSIS
Counselor Troi wakes aboard the Romulan warbird Khazara, surgically altered to look Romulan. Sub-commander N'Vek, a member of Spock's underground movement, has kidnapped her to pose as Major Rakal of the Tal Shiar, the Romulan intelligence service. Their secret cargo is a group of defectors, including Vice Proconsul M'Ret. Meanwhile the Enterprise takes aboard Stefan DeSeve, a Starfleet officer who defected to Romulus years before, bringing a message from Spock. Troi must bluff the warbird's suspicious Commander Toreth at every turn. When the planned handover to a freighter fails, N'Vek destroys it, and Troi takes charge of the plan herself. She lets the Enterprise track the cloaked ship, then uses a staged confrontation to beam the defectors across. N'Vek is killed when his betrayal is uncovered, but Troi is beamed safely home as the warbird escapes.
- 01A follow-up to the “Unification” two-parter, continuing the story of Spock's underground movement without Leonard Nimoy appearing.
- 02Worf debuts his longer hair, tied back in a ponytail, a look he keeps for the rest of the series and the four TNG films.
- 03Naren Shankar named the Tal Shiar after the tal-shaya, the Vulcan neck-breaking technique from the original series episode “Journey to Babel”.
