The Enterprise searches for survivors of the freighter Odin, lost seven years earlier, and traces them to Angel One, a planet governed by women, where men are expected to know their place. Riker leads an away team to negotiate with Beata, the planet's leader. They find four men from the Odin, led by Ramsey, who have married local women, inspired a movement for equality and refuse to leave. Meanwhile, a virus spreads through the Enterprise after Wesley picks it up in the holodeck, and Dr Crusher races to find a cure as Picard and other crew fall ill. With the ship needed urgently at the Romulan Neutral Zone, time is short. Beata's council condemns the men and their followers to death. Riker argues that change cannot be stopped, and Beata exiles the group instead, accepting that she has only delayed the change.
