Red alert: the full plot, ending included. Haven't watched yet?REVEAL SYNOPSIS
The Enterprise visits Ligon II to obtain a vaccine needed to fight an outbreak of Anchilles fever. Lutan, the Ligonian leader, is impressed by Lt Tasha Yar's skill in aikido, and as he beams back to his planet he takes her with him, a bold act of prestige in his culture. Picard decides to follow Ligonian protocol rather than use force. At a banquet, Lutan announces that Yar will become his “first one”, which forces his current wife Yareena to challenge her to a fight to the death with poisoned weapons. The two women prove evenly matched until Yar strikes Yareena and has them both beamed to the Enterprise, where Dr Crusher revives her. Because Yareena briefly died, her marriage is ended. She takes Hagon as her new first one, Lutan loses the status that came through her, and the vaccine is handed over.
