Researchers in the Arctic dig up the wreckage of a strange ship and two cybernetic bodies, and what wakes up in the lab is very familiar to Star Trek fans.
Red alert: the full plot, ending included. Haven't watched yet?REVEAL SYNOPSIS
In the Arctic, researchers uncover a crashed spacecraft and two frozen cybernetic bodies. Taken to a research station, the bodies are revived by their nanoprobes. The aliens assimilate the scientists and escape in a transport, upgrading it with their own technology. Admiral Forrest sends Enterprise after them. The crew rescue survivors from an attacked Tarkalean freighter, and Archer recalls Zefram Cochrane's story of cybernetic beings from the future. The rescued Tarkaleans turn out to be assimilated, and Phlox is infected with nanoprobes. He halts the infection by treating himself with omicron radiation. When the transport reappears, it disables Enterprise's weapons and engines, and the aliens announce that resistance is futile. Archer and Reed board it with explosives, and Tucker restores power. Archer orders the transport destroyed, knowing its assimilated crew cannot be saved. Phlox then reveals the aliens sent a message into the Delta Quadrant, which will arrive in about two centuries.
- 01Brannon Braga had refused to bring in the Borg, calling it a cheap trick, until this premise changed his mind.
- 02Bonita Friedericy (Rooney) is married to John Billingsley. The producers kept this quiet, and the two never shared a scene.
- 03The Borg costumes and set pieces were reused from earlier productions. Friedericy's costume had been worn by Roxann Dawson in Voyager's “Unimatrix Zero”.
