An away team boards a stricken Klingon ship sinking into a gas giant, but the crew they hoped to rescue may not want to be saved.
Red alert: the full plot, ending included. Haven't watched yet?REVEAL SYNOPSIS
Enterprise finds a Klingon ship sinking into the atmosphere of a gas giant. T'Pol, Reed and Hoshi board it and find the crew unconscious on the bridge, poisoned by a toxin. One Klingon, a young woman named Bu'kaH, escapes in the away team's shuttlepod, stranding them, and is picked up by Enterprise. As the ship sinks deeper and the pressure mounts, Hoshi studies the captain's log and learns the ship was damaged in battle and was hiding while it made repairs. The away team works to restore the engines while Archer tries to win over the defiant Bu'kaH, eventually convincing her that the poison came from wine taken as spoils and appealing to her sense of honour. Reed uses torpedo shockwaves to push the vessel upward. Once the Klingon captain recovers, he demands that Enterprise surrender, but Archer refuses and the Klingons leave without a fight.
- 01Stephen Lee was originally cast as the Klingon captain but was unable to take part, and Vaughn Armstrong stepped in at the last minute.
- 02Fred Dekker said it was his favourite of his three credited episodes. It was inspired by the Kursk submarine disaster.
- 03Les Landau's only Enterprise episode as director.
