The Emerald Chain bring the captured Discovery to Federation headquarters, posing as a friendly ship. Burnham and Book crash-land in the hangar bay and Burnham slips through the ship alone, determined to stop Osyraa from exploiting Stamets and his knowledge of the spore drive. Meanwhile Osyraa sits down with Admiral Vance and offers an alliance, with terms that include ending slavery and respecting the Prime Directive. When Vance insists that she must also stand trial for her crimes, she walks out. Burnham finds Stamets, renders him unconscious with a nerve pinch and sends him to safety in an emergency escape field. A furious Osyraa executes the Andorian Ryn, unsettling her own scientist Aurellio. The captive bridge crew, led by Tilly, plan an escape with the help of three DOT-23 repair robots, but Zareh captures Burnham as the episode ends.
- 01Aurellio's hover chair was written into the character to accommodate Kenneth Mitchell's ALS diagnosis. Mitchell had previously played Klingons on the series.
- 02The DOT-23 repair robots that help the bridge crew are guided by the Sphere data.
