During a crew party, Discovery takes aboard an endangered space creature, a gormagander. Hidden inside is Harry Mudd, who has a time crystal that lets him reset the same 30 minutes over and over. He uses each loop to kill Lorca, learn the ship's secrets and prepare to sell Discovery to the Klingons. Thanks to the creature's DNA in his system, Stamets alone remembers every loop. He recruits Burnham, who must be convinced afresh each time, and Tyler, as Mudd moves closer to success. Along the way, Burnham, who admits she has never been in love, shares a dance and a kiss with Tyler in one loop. Burnham finally offers herself up as T'Kuvma's killer, a prize Mudd cannot resist, and the crew tricks him into believing he has won and ending the loop. Instead of Klingons, his wife Stella and her wealthy father arrive to collect him.
