A father and son camping trip in the Gamma Quadrant, with Quark and Nog in tow, brings Sisko face to face with the soldiers of the mysterious Dominion.

Sisko plans a science project trip to the Gamma Quadrant with Jake, only for Quark and Nog to join them. On a quiet planet they meet Eris, a woman fleeing from soldiers, and Sisko and Quark are captured with her by the Jem'Hadar, the troops of the Dominion. Eris tells them the Jem'Hadar cannot be escaped. Jake and Nog, left behind, struggle to fly the runabout. Talak'talan, a Jem'Hadar officer, appears in Ops to announce Sisko's capture, then walks out through a forcefield. The USS Odyssey under Captain Keogh leads a rescue with two runabouts. Sisko, Quark and Eris break out, and O'Brien reaches Jake and Nog to bring everyone home, but as the ships retreat a Jem'Hadar vessel rams the Odyssey and destroys it. Back on the station, Eris reveals herself as a Dominion agent and vanishes.
